Sony Considering Gaming Phone – Nikkei
Sony is to establish a development team tasked with creating a new gaming phone to rival Apple’s iPhone.
The product will combine the functions of PSP with those of Sony Ericsson mobile phones and a development team could be set up as early as July, according to the Nikkei business daily (via Reuters).
While a Sony spokesman declined to comment on the report, the development of a PlayStation phone has been rumoured on numerous occasions.
Last month Sony Ericsson president Hideki Komiyama acknowledged that he would be interested in tapping Sony’s strength in the gaming market. With Ericsson having previously integrated the Walkman and Cybershot brands into its phones, Komiyama said a move to create a PlayStation mobile "could happen."

I think, looking over the rabid comments on this page, funny has found a new place to die.
It is something to consider....but I think that is all; nothing has been announced so everyone should just calm down. I have noticed there are a 'few' people on this website that just spurt out utter hate and it is disturbing. It just reflects badly on this site. I guess an idea could be to extend phone like capabilities to the PSP Go one year from now with a integrated 3G Sim Card; but again pure speculation. More important is to improve the PSP's software line-up; which thankfully Sony will be doing this Q4 as followed;
Gran Turismo Portable
Rock Band: Unplugged
LittleBigPlant Portable
Dissidia: FInal Fantasy
Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines
MotorStorm: Arctic Edge
Soul Calibur
Monster Hunter 2: Freedom Unite

Edit* I believe the PSP Go has Skype built in....but as always I believe games are what matters (as a gamer myself). I believe the PSP Go has quite a line-up in this regard. I also believe Tekken 6, FInal Fantasy Agito and a new Kingdom Hearts game is on the way to the PSP.
But none of those games are reasons to have a PSP-phone, Hell, none of those games are reasons to buy a PSP-GO over a PSP with a 16GB memory stick for cheaper.
The topic is about a PSP-phone, & the general consensus seems to be that this should have been done with the GO. That way, it could've have been better, cheaper, & a phone. The 'GO is Sony's answer to the iPhone.
- Apple's selling point is that you only need to carry one device for everything.
- Sony's response is that you still need 2 devices, but at least they look alike.
All this posturing diminishes Sony's credibility. It didn't start poorly. It's just that, with recent decisions, it's rapidly spiraling downward; much like Atari - as noted
I said a million times that if they'd just put a sim-card in a PSP Go, I'd be buying one. Of course, it only occurs to Sony to do these things about 2 years after they'd've been relevant. Anyway, assuming it's not totally ridiculous in it's overpricedness, I would probably get one of these.
A note to Sony (because they DEFINITELY spend their days perusing the Esdge forums): This really has to cost less than the iphone, or you're not going to get anywhere at all.
If the phone was priced as the same as the PSPGo, then Sony can just fuck off!
Pity Sony does NOT seem to be considering: What a fooking Mess it`s made of the PSP so far-Bloody new Hardware models whilst there`s a software Famine on the system and THAT PSP GO price? Bloody hell, april the 1st long time gone.
Similar with PS3-As an owner? Where are all these Superior tech. games you promised me? 8 years down the line?.
To me? Sony=Atari REBORN. Once got things SO right. Now? Oh so Fooked up.
They're totally the new Atari.
Rehashed, overpriced technology; releasing fixes years after it's relevant; Activision hates them, & antiquated controllers that other companies moved beyond years ago.

Wooo! I have to say that I'm excited to see how this turns out. I just bought an iPhone 3gs that I'm typing this from and I love it. I'm assuming this PSP phone will offer data plans. I can't imagine going back to a normal phone.
