Sony is to expand the PlayStation Network to non-gaming products including network enabled Blu-ray players, Sony televisions and PCs.
A new studio, Sony Network Entertainment, has been formed to create content for the service. It will be headed by Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai.
The move will deliver "a single user login and experience across all product lines”, the executive said at CES 2010, according to Kotaku.
Users will be able to access the PSN via a number of Sony’s non-gaming products from next month. PSN will also be made available to any Windows-based PCs.
In related news, rumours regarding PSN subscription charges have once again emerged via a survey distributed by IPSOS Online Research. Sent to European consumers, the questionnaire is broadly similar to the one IPSOS distributed in the US last month, outlining four potential PSN subscription packages, reports Joystiq.
PlayStation boss Kaz Hirai recently said that SCE is exploring the idea of introducing a PSN subscription model that would offer users premium services, most likely for a monthly fee.
