Sony Europe Boss Stepping Down

Having been founding President of SCEE back in 1995, Chris Deering (pictured left) was promoted a year and a half ago to President of Sony Europe. As of November 1, Deering will step down to pursue "personal opportunities" in the U.S.

Deering will be succeeded by Fujio Nishida, who currently serves as EVP, Corporate Executive, in charge of Electronics Marketing at Sony Corporation in Tokyo. Nishida has had experience running groups for Sony in Australia, Canada  and the US (where he spent three years as President and COO).

"Building on my experience in the US, I look forward to my new role as the President of Sony Europe," said Fujio Nishida. "The European market is highly diverse with many challenges and opportunities. I wish to further expand our business in Europe and thus contribute to the Sony Group as a whole."

"Chris Deering has made brilliant contributions to Sony Corporation throughout his career as President of Sony Europe, President and later Chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, and as a senior executive at Sony Pictures. The company will long benefit from all the initiatives he has put in place. He has earned our respect, our admiration and

our gratitude, and we wish him continued success as he moves on in his career," said Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman and CEO, Sony Corporation. He continued, "Fujio Nishida will bring a wealth of global marketing experience and knowledge of the consumer electronics business to his new role. We know that he will build on the solid foundation already put in place by Chris, and continue to evolve and expand the profile of Sony Electronics across Europe."
