Sony Reports Record PlayStation Store Sales

Digital business on the rise at Sony Computer Entertainment America, which says PS3 sales grew almost 70 per cent last month.

October marked the highest month of revenue on record for the PlayStation Store, with downloads up 60 per cent year over year, according to Sony Computer Entertainment America.

With the PlayStation Network entering its fourth year this week, the company said that 650 million pieces of content have been downloaded worldwide from the digital marketplace and that there are now over 31 million registered PSN accounts globally.

SCEA also noted that PS3 sales were up nearly 70 per cent in October when compared to the same month in 2008, “making it the only console to experience significant growth year over year”.

Earlier today Sony Computer Entertainment Europe launched its PlayStation Network video delivery service (VDS) in France, Germany, Spain and the UK, enabling users to download thousands of films to PS3 and PSP.
