Sony has revealed the long-rumoured redesigned PS3, which is half the size of the launch model and 25 per cent smaller than the current slim model.
The new-look console was shown for the first time during Sony’s Tokyo Game Show conference by SCE president Andrew House. Japan, however, will be the last major territory to see release of the new PS3; it launches there on October 4. It debuts in the US on September 25, and in Europe on September 28.
There will be two SKUs in Europe: a 500GB model for €300, and a 12GB model for €230. To make up for that meagre storage there is an optional mount for a speedier SATA hard drive.
Sony announced at Gamescom last month that the PlayStation Plus subscription service was headed to PS Vita, and at TGS House confirmed it will launch in November and be available to existing subscribers at no extra cost.
