Sony has announced that its upcoming PlayStation Vita handheld will launch in the UK, US, Europe and Australia on February 22 next year.
Speaking at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, SCEA president and CEO Jack Tretton confirmed the release date along with pricing for each territory.
The price of 3G connectivity comes to £279.99 in the UK (€299.99 in Europe, $449.95 in Australia and $299 in the US), but if you're happy to stick with the Wi-Fi model the console will set you back £229.99 (€249.99 in Europe, $349.95 in Australia and $249 in the US).
No details were given on what games each territory can expect in the launch line-up, but Tretton makes mention that there are currently 100 games in development globally, including Resistance: Burning Skies and Uncharted Golden Abyss, along with a host of native social applications such as Near, Party, Facebook and Twitter.
Last month, Sony revealed that the Vita would make its worldwide debut in Japan on December 17, with 26 titles available at launch.
If two months is too long for you to wait, Vita's region-free nature makes it easy enough to import. However, get your order in quickly as it was revealed yesterday that pre-order stock is selling out fast in Japan.
We recently spoke to the men taking charge of the Japanese giant’s next console discuss its creation – and future.

7Soon you too can pay full price to play watered down ports of ps3 titles that were all kinds of meh 3 years years ago!
What was meh exactly? You better not be referring to Everybody's Golf?!
On the surface it does look like a repeat of the pointless PSP, but at least this has dual sticks to make half arsed AAA ports at least playable, and doesn't rely on the worst storage medium ever invented. The touch panels might provide some interesting experiences and if the downloadable stuff doesn't focus solely on ports of Angry Birds and the scrapings of the PS1 abattoir floor, I might pick one up.
Even if it is a brilliant machine I don't think it well set the world alight with sales. Ive a sad feeling dedicated gaming handhelds have had their day.
Nah i LOVE Everybody's Golf :) I was thinking more along the lines of middle of the road titles like resistance, lbp & ratchet and clank.
It'll require a price drop before I consider it.
That's some really wonky photoshopping on the box top.
Hands up if you genuinely get excited about playing the games on Vita.......... anyone?
I'm excited. But not about watered down Uncharted.
I had playground arguments about Vita+PS3 style connectivity 20 years ago so this is a big moment for me stunning the other kids that have moved on with their lives and probably have no recollection of said arguments.
