Sony is to throw its weight behind 3D technology with the release of a new line of 3D Bravia televisions next year.

The company is expected to make its PlayStation 3 games, Blu-ray players and Vaio laptops compatible with the new technology.

"Today, 3D is clearly on its way to the mass market,” CEO Howard Stringer was due to tell the audience at the IFA technology trade show in Berlin yesterday, according to the Financial Times. "As with high definition a few years back, there are a variety of issues yet to be addressed. But the 3D train is on the track, and we at Sony are ready to drive it home."

I don't even have a HD set yet.... I guess I'll have to wait and see if this 3d lark catches on before getting my next TV now. That's just irritating.

I barely get HD and this is my thing full time--3D is going completely over people's heads.
