Sony Computer Entertainment America will release a 250GB PS3 in the US on November 3.
Retailing for $349.99, the 250GB PS3 will offer the same form factor and functionality as the current 120GB system.
“The PS3 platform is poised for a tremendous holiday season,” said Scott Steinberg, SCEA’s vice president of product marketing. “We kicked things off early with the new price point and sleek form factor and have continued the momentum with this week’s launch of the universally acclaimed exclusive, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
“The new 250GB PS3 provides consumers with another compelling hardware option and speaks to the growing consumer appetite for digital content from the PlayStation Network – particularly high-def content that showcases the power of the PS3 system.”
Last month SCE UK announced plans to release a selection of 250GB PS3 bundles in time for the holiday season.
Microsoft also recently confirmed plans to launch a number of 250GB Xbox 360 bundles for the first time.
Not bad; $50 more is worth it for 130 GB (for those who do not want to go to the trouble of changing the HDD). I think later down the line this will also come in Uncharted Drakes Fortune 2, Gran Turismo 5 and God of War 3 individual bundles at $349.99. Something just tells me this will happen (it is what Sony did with the Classic Piano Black PS3 160 GB). The only real thing I can say is Sony still are not near the $200 price range (the critical area) and that could take two years to arrive; which by then well a lot can happen. Something tells me the competitors will not be sitting on their chairs just waiting for the PS3 to hit the $250 mark let alone $200.
I dont understand why they limit the disk space so heavily while also trying to encourage us to use our consoles as a media centre as well as download live, classic and episodic games.
Surely they cant make that much money from extra hard drives in comparison to DLC, just let us use the usb and be done with it
I don't understand why both Sony and Microsoft are drip feeding us their storage solutions? In Sony's favor, it's been common knowledge that you have the freedom to put a 3rd party harddrive in boosting it up to the maximum of 500gb. Microsoft could do the same if it wasn't for their strict third party licensing policy.
Wakey Wakey Microsoft - time to step up the basic/nonbundeled Elite SKU configuration - you're getting overtaken by the other guy :-)
Wow, this isn't out over there yet?
Europe gets something first!
