Sony has trademarked “Cloudsurf,” heightening rumours that it is to introduce an online storage solution for PS3.

Filed in late 2009, the trademark references “videogame machines” as well as mobiles, cameras and televisions.

In November SCE acknowledged that it is exploring the idea of introducing a PlayStation Network subscription model featuring premium services. Just weeks later a survey distributed by IPSOS Online Research mentioned the potential ability to save PS3 game data online rather than to a hard drive.

SCE also filed a trademark for "PS Cloud" on March 24 last year. The filing mentioned a relationship to "entertainment services, namely, providing an online videogame that users may access through the internet", as well as other forms of "on-demand" media, from electronic magazines and books to television.

However Sony dress it up, I knew it wouldn't be long before they tried to recoup some of their losses by charging for online services. It's not quite the USP having a free-to-use online community if you have to pay for it.
