Sony has revealed the UMD Passport scheme, which will enable users to register their PSP games and download them to their new PlayStation Vita.
From December 6, 11 days before Vita's Japanese release, users will be able to download the UMD Registration Application to their PSPs. After inserting a UMD game, users can register and link it to a PlayStation Network account, and download the game in question to PlayStation Vita.
While just 40 titles will be available at launch, Sony plans to support around 200 over time. Despite users obviously already owning the PSP games, the downloads won't be free: Andriasang reports that Vita downloads will cost between ¥500 and ¥1,500 (£4 and £12). However, the downloaded versions will be playable not just on Vita, but also on PSP and PSPgo.
Games can only be registered to a single PSN account, and saves can be transferred from the PSP to its successor using the upcoming PS Vita Content Management app.
