Spector to Keynote 2008 MIGS

Microsoft Games StudioĆ Laura Fryer and Grand Theft Childhood authors to join Warren Spector as keynote speakers.

The organizers of the 2008 Montreal International Game Summit have added a number of keynote speakers to the event lineup, including Deus Ex creator Warren Spector.

“I had a great time speaking at the Montreal International Game Summit a couple of years ago,” said Spector, currently vice president and creative director at Disney-owned Junction Point Studios.

“The people I met, the quality and variety of the sessions I attended, the city itself and the vibrant development community I found there, all made the experience something special. I’m really looking forward to a return engagement as one of the keynote speakers this year.”

Laura Fryer, an executive producer at Microsoft Games Studios who is credited on titles such as Crimson Skies, Fighter Ace and Gears of War, and Cheryl Olson and Lawrence Kutner, authors of Grand Theft Childhood, will also deliver keynote addresses.

"We're excited about speaking at MIGS,” said Olson and Kutner, who will present the findings of their research into how teens and their parents perceive, react and respond to videogames.

“Our presentation is based on a two-year, $1.5-million research study we conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The results fly in the face of what many politicians and pundits tell the public."

Last week Frontier Developments boss David Braben was also announced as a keynote speaker for the event, which will take place at the Palais des congrès de Montréal from November 18-19.
