Square Enix CEO Yoichi has said that the publisher aims to double its recurring profit to 50 billion yen ($561 million) in three to five years.

The executive said this could be achieved by expanding the company’s range of games and by growing its overseas operations in countries like China.

Wada told Reuters Japan that the firm is currently negotiating deals with Chinese online game operators to bring its titles to the fast growing market.

Additionally, Wada said that Square hopes to ship over six million copies of Final Fantasy XIII worldwide. The latest title in the 85 million-selling RPG franchise is set for release in Japan on December 17 for PS3 only, and in Europe and the US in spring 2010 for both PS3 and Xbox 360.

Wada also reiterated that Final Fantasy XIV might not be exclusive to PS3 and PC. He said that Square is currently engaged in discussions with Microsoft about the possibility of releasing the game for Xbox 360.

We’re still awaiting official comment from Square Enix concerning reports that its Japanese arm is to cut 200-300 staff.

If their Crystal tools engine works just as well for 360 I can't see why they wouldn't release XIV on it. Seems like a no brainer if they want to double their profits.

wonder if that means a release of FFXIV in China? There's a large amount of PS3 and 360 owners there, probably Japanese ones illegally imported so they count as JP sales.
