Stardock Opening Second Studio

Mich.-based Sins of a Solar Empire publisher expands amidst economic turmoil, Edge learns.

Stardock, the PC game publisher behind Ironclad Games' acclaimed Sins of a Solar Empire, has received "close to a million dollar tax credit" from its home state of Michigan, and will be opening a second studio, a rep has told Edge.

The rep said in an e-mail that the new studio will create about 50 new jobs "very soon"--good news amidst mounting job losses across the nation and within the games industry.

We expect to have more from the developer regarding the new studio and tax credit later today.

[UPDATE] Stardock confirmed in a press statement that the new Mich.-based studio will be working on an unannounced RPG to be published independently by Stardock.

CEO Brad Wardell said in a statement, “...We think Michigan is well placed to become a hub for technology companies thanks to new programs from the state to make Michigan more competitive to do business in.

"We look forward to continuing our strong growth with additional development projects over the next couple of years.”
