Steam passes five million concurrent users

Steam has set a new record after more than five million people were logged in to Valve's PC platform at the same time.

Our friends at PC Gamer spotted that Steam passed the milestone yesterday, reaching an all-time high of 5,012,460 concurrent users on January 2.

The most likely contributing factors to the new record are the Steam Christmas sale, and the enduring popularity of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Bethesda's sprawling adventure remains the most popular game on the platform, with Valve's Jason Holtman last month calling it the "fastest-selling title in Steam history."
