Street Fighter IV Hitting iPhone

Capcom to bring another of its major franchises to AppleĆs handheld next month.

Capcom has announced plans to release Street Fighter IV on iPhone this March.

According to IGN, “this is no quickie, banged-out port” as “Capcom has taken months to come up with suitable controls for a platform with no physical buttons, employing a virtual pad and move buttons to recreate the arcade stick right on the touchscreen”. Multiple control configurations will be offered.

Assets from the current-gen code will be utilised, meaning the art style from the franchise’s most recent release will remain intact “with minimal loss of detail or colour”.

The game will feature a range of classic characters as well as some of the new ones introduced in the 2008 home console versions of Street Fighter IV, each with their complete move sets.

Also confirmed for the title is two player multiplayer support via Bluetooth.

Last May, following the successful launch of Resident Evil: Degeneration on iPhone, Capcom announced plans to release ten games for the handheld before the close of the business year ending March 2010.

The publisher also said last month that Super Street Fighter IV for PS3 and Xbox 360, featuring new characters, combos and online modes, will launch on April 27 in North America and three days later in Europe.
