Team Meat has announced Super Meat Boy: The Game for iOS and other, unspecified touchscreen devices.
A post on the studio's blog reveals that Tommy Refenes and Edmund McMillen have canned plans for a direct port of their punishingly difficult 2010 XBLA and PC platformer. Instead, they have developed an all-new game from the ground up for mobile devices.
"As some of you know, we have been playing with the idea of porting SMB [to] the iPhone for some time," the post reads. "Sadly, there was no way of doing this without the game becoming a pile of garbage.
"Super Meat Boy is a twitch platformer with precision controls, there was no way in hell this would work on a touchscreen with buttons all over it. Super Meat Boy isn’t a game we want to make a sub-par version of just to cash in, so we decided to totally remake the whole game instead, from the ground up."
Little was revealed beyond the below screenshot, with the pair admitting work had only just begun on the game. However, it insists Super Meat Boy: The Game will be "a feature-length, touch-controlled platformer specifically designed for touch devices."
It isn't, however, "the Super Meat Boy you're used to. There are aspects of Super Meat Boy in there, obviously, but this is a brand-new game with new art, new sound, new everything."
