Survey: Blu-Ray Primarily Driving PS3 Purchase Intent

Blu-ray is a bigger attraction than games for consumers interested in buying SonyĆ­s console, according to media research firm Nielsen.

A survey by media research firm Nielsen has found that the primary driver of PS3 purchase intent is the console’s Blu-ray functionality.

Specific PS3 games play a relatively small role in driving interest in the console, ranking bottom on a list of ten considerations.

Nielsen gathered its data over a three week period surrounding the launch of God Of War III by interviewing over 700 active gamers that didn’t own a PS3 but said they were definitely or probably interested in buying one.

The console’s most recent price cut was the second biggest motivator for PS3 purchase intent, followed by the system’s library of games.

The fifth biggest motivator was a desire to play games with PS3-owning friends, followed by interest in the console's other online and multimedia capabilities.
