Sony has officially announced Team Ico's new game, which is titled The Last Guardian.

"From the award-winning creator of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus comes a new gaming experience - the graphically-stunning, emotionally involving story of a child who encounters a legendary mythical creature,” says the official press release.

"Trapped in a forbidding fortress, the pair must learn to trust each other in order to find their way to freedom. Prepare to live out a fairytale with The Last Guardian - a tale like no other."

The game looks absolutely lovely, the same slighly surreal sense of isolation and desolation that runs through Ico and SotC is apparently all present and correct. I loved those games, exactly why is hard to pin down but I was utterly and also quite peacefully absorbed by them, which made a welcome change from the usual pulse pounding immersion I usually get from games. This could be the one that causes me to shell out for the PS3. After the price drop.

If you build a relationship with the Gryphon-thing then I think that my seven year old would absolutely love the game and be transported by it, but it might be a little too bleak or troubling in places; he's still pretty innocent. I wouldn't want to let him play anything that might trouble him (there's plenty of time for being hardened and cynical when you get older in my view). Is there any word on an age rating? I can't remember if there was one on the first two games...

Great looking game. I hope it's something special.

Since Sony swear by their 10 year plan, i'll pick up the PS3 on year 9. That way i'll get it cheap...along with the games.

Yeah..i'm in no hurry.

This is the crown gem in Sony's first party studios. I don't own a PS3 and many people on this site believe me to be a Xbox360 fanboy, but they are simply wrong -- I loved ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, and I am sad this'll never see the light of day on the only consoles I own.

Still, one game alone isn't enough to get me to chuck out $400.

I think this is the only console game around right now that can attest to pushing the 'art' boundary in video games., though.

Looks like another beautiful game from Team ICO. I hope it plays more like ICO and less like Shadow of the Colossus. As much as I wanted to like Shadow, I just couldn't get over it's stilted controls.

I hated ICO but loved SotC. So I guess only one of us gets to be happy :)

I hope they re-release Ico and SotC like they did with the MGS series before the new game came out. I missed out on Ico.

This is looking to be the best thing to come out of E3.

I agree on that quote.

The creature looks fantastic , (although they only showed the trailer which has been out for a week or so) looks interesting!

Game of E3. This will be something special.

Nahhh , I think GOW3 was the best out of the conference ......

I honestly can't get excited about GoW3. It looks exactly like the original gameplay-wise. Who cares about brawlers anymore!

Leave it to the ICO team to constantly push boundaries and present new concepts. If Sony has any sense, they'll give this a triple AAA marketing push, much stronger than SotC and certailny better than ICO. This game should be looked to, not just for sony fanboys or casual game fans, but for the true critics of the industry, the people who want to see video games rise as a medium to something more sophisticated.

And this is coming from someone who doesnt own and doesn't plan to own a PS3. I will be sad to miss this if Sony ever fails to lower the price of the ps3 to a more competitive point, and maybe lessen the form factor of the bloated box. I like an earlier poster's idea -- wait for the '9th year of the 10 year system cycle' that sony is claiming and pick it all up cheap =P

Perhaps Vader, but while you're enjoying your gaming now could you see yourself picking up a PS2 for ICO or Shadow? By the PS3's ninth year (if it has one) you'll be 2-3 years into (presumably) the 720's lifecycle would you want to go backwards?

All joking aside, I am bummed sometimes not having a PS3 when I keep hearing great things about their games. inFamous, Uncharted 2, and the new game from the ICO people (can't remember the name) all sound awesome. But my family budget doesn't really allow for a $500 investment right now. Maybe tax season next year? Hopefully by then there is a 100 dollar drop and I might end up joining the darkside. ^^

Halo: ODST was game of the show hands down...^^

I haven't seen any of the PS3 stuff yet and honestly there's going to be a zillion games shown at E3 that weren't part of the conferences so there could be hidden gems out there that we just don't know about. There could be some surprises yet to come for all 3 consoles, so I think it's too early to call game of the show.

Typical, stupid, fanboy reply.

Halo: ODST your game of E3 hands down. BUT you haven't seen any of the PS3 stuff yet.

Idiot!

Wall_E, Wall_e, Wall_E,

Did you not read the rest of my post? I was clearly kidding when I said that. That's what the ^^ was for. The rest of my post I said that there may be games we haven't heard of yet since only the conferences have happened and there's still 3 days of show left and that it's too early to call game of the show.

Calm down Wall_E, I know you're eager to show my clear fanboyism, but at least read it all the way before you make yourself look silly.

One thing that really surprised me today was Assasins Creed 2 .
Seriously that game looks really, really good !!!

I watched all 3 conferences (MS/ N/ S) + I think they all did pretty good

I'm stoked to be able to check out Sony's (not Nintendo's so much though) press conferences. I hate having to wait till I get home to see the vids. 3 days left.

edit: I'm out, gotta go to PT. Later everyone.
