EA has sold 1.4 million copies of The Sims 3 for PC and Mac in the title’s first week on shelves, making it the bestselling PC launch in the company’s history.
Earlier this week Claire Ridley, UK marketing manager for the EA Play Label, spoke of the company’s delight with the game’s performance after it recorded the fourth biggest UK opening week ever for a PC title to debut atop the all formats software chart.
Additionally, EA said that the downloadable iPhone and iPod touch version of The Sims 3 had hit the number one paid App Store spot in 37 countries worldwide since release.
The Sims franchise has sold over 100 million units globally since its February 2000 introduction.
"With more than a dozen press awards, strong reviewer scores and positive feedback from The Sims community, we are thrilled with the success of The Sims 3 launch and the early sales indicate that we have another hit on our hands," said Rod Humble, head of the EA Play label.

Impressive numbers, glad to see that, despite any piracy issues.
Nice publicity for EA there, Tom, can we relay on Edge to grill said company about the constant crashing of the app store version? It seems so bad to me I would refer to it as an alpha build. No refunds regardless of complaints either. Not good.
Didn't know about that, good call there.
Nice to see though that the sales are pretty big, despite the leak of the game. It could be because the version that was leaked was not the finished product.
