Poland-based developer CD Projekt Red has refused to comment on reports that the development of its PS3 and Xbox 360 RPG, The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf, has been cancelled.

According to a translation on IncGamers, rumours regarding the game’s possible cancellation originate from Polish site Polygamia, which claims to have been informed by sources that the title won’t see the light of day.

Edge approached CD Projekt Red’s public relations and marketing VP for North America and the UK, who told us that he was unable to “comment on rumours,” adding that “any future plans for the project will be announced via official channels.”

The Witcher franchise, based on the literary works of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, debuted on PC in 2007, and hit the one million worldwide sales mark in October 2008. Later that year CD Projekt Red said the series would make its console debut in autumn 2009.

Writing on the game’s forums, a PR and community manager for the developer added that a statement on the matter would be made “soon.”

Edge has left requests for comment with the game’s publisher Atari.

The PC version of The Witcher is my best game of 2007, easily. How the original concept of the game would translate to consoles is beyond me?
