THQ's planned closure of its UK studio, Digital Warrington, has now officially taken place with the loss of 36 jobs. A transition team of ten remain to oversee the PSN release of Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team.
"THQ have done all they can through the consultancy period and have treated staff with respect," studio founder Colin Bell told Develop. "I've definitely been proud to have been involved in setting up and running the studio and have no regrets.
"I've also been proud to work for THQ. We've provided around 400 man years of employment over the last eight years and that is no mean feat. However it's game sales that count! Juiced franchise has sold over 5m and I'm hoping that Warhammer 40k Kill Team, which is launched today, will be a great parting product for the studio."
Three new start-ups have formed from the studio's staff. D3T is a three-man team led by Jamie Campbell and Stephen Powell, while a second studio will be established and named by Don Whiteford and Ric Badger once the transition team's work is complete.
In addition, a concept team named Alien Apple Studios has been formed by Stu and Donna Jennett.
Sony and Evolution have apparently offered consultancy work to some ex-THQ employees.

3I haven't bought a single THQ game this generation, and I was suprised that they were still around.
I always associate THQ with the dreadful Home Alone games, the first of which my Mum brought me for Christmas one year. Fortunately she wasn't offended when I took it back to Woolworths and exchanged it for A Link to the Past at the first opportunity.
I associate them with the exact same game :) It was £50 on the snes! Don't think i've bought another THQ game since.
