Konami shipped three million copies of PES 2010 to retail ahead the football title’s release today on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

“Retail backing for the game is extremely strong, with Konami predicting the game will become a million-selling title at launch,” the company said in a statement.

PES 2010 is Konami’s largest release of the year, and we cannot stress the gratitude for all the input from the enormous PES fan base,” said Martin Schneider, Konami’s European marketing & PR director. “Global sales for the PES series to date are over 55.5m, and we expect a very strong performance from what is easily the best PES in a long, long time.”

PES 2010’s major rival, EA’s FIFA 10, has topped the UK all formats chart for the past three weeks since launching, “comfortably” passing one million domestic sales in the process. EA labelled the title “the fastest selling sports game ever” after it sold 1.7 million copies in Europe in its first week of availability.

PSP, PS2 and Wii versions of PES 2010 will be released on November 20.

I'm normally a PES fanboy, but I've got FIFA this year. I hate it, it drives me up the wall with all its little bugs... but it's probably not helped by me being crap at it. As soon as i learn how to dribble round someone without getting fouled I might start to admit that it is actually better.

I would rather wrap my testicles around an oil rig drill than play the insanity inducing boredom that is Pro Evo!

However i appreciate its importance in the grand scheme of things, Konami must be feeling the pressure what with FIFA really picking up the pace this year.

This did pretty poorly today in our store. I'd say Smackdown vs Raw fared better. I can't see it challenging FIFA.

I've seen the early review scores on gamerankings.com, looks like its Fifa's year again

I've read the review for PES 2010 and Fifa 2010 and Fifa fared better in the reviews then PES.

I trust NowGamer for their reviews, and by their reviews and the number they gave each game I'd say this is the year of Fifa pretty much.

I'll be more interested to see sales figures though by the end of Q4. Review or no review, there are PES people and Fifa people.

But is it better than Fifa 10 this year? We need the Edge review posted.
