Trion Recruits SOE Exec

Trion World Network has again bolstered its management team with the appointment of a former Sony Online Entertainment exec.

Nicholas Beliaeff, former executive director of development and head of SOE San Diego, will be heading up a new San Diego studio for the privately-held online game maker Trion.

The new San Diego studio complements Trion’s Redwood City, Calif. headquarters as well as an Austin, Tx. location.

Beliaeff was most recently responsible for launching SOE’s console division, an effort that resulted in the release of Untold Legends for PS3 and Field Commander for PSP. The 20-year vet was also involved in operating the EverQuest series, PlanetSide and Vanguard, and previously worked at 3DO and New World Computing.

Trion’s plans involve launching highly dynamic online "event-based" games which draw cues from scheduled TV programming.

Trion, which is headed up by former EA exec Dr. Lars Buttler and former New World Computing founder and CEO Jon Van Caneghem, recently hired on former Webzen marketer Peter Matiss and ex-NCsoft exec Won Seok Chung.
