Westwood, Mass.-based Lord of the Rings Online developer Turbine has appointed a marketing vet to the newly-created position of chief marketing officer.

Jan Robert Horsfall will be taking on the new role as Turbine expands its global marketing efforts. He'll lead global branding efforts and "oversee all consumer and partnership marketing initiatives."

Horsfall was the CEO and founder of companies including Gelazzi, White Summit Strategies and Gemini Solutions. He also has served as VP of marketing for Lycos and VP of consumer brand strategy for Valvoline.

He called Turbine a leader in technological and creative innovation. "...It comes down to making these brands naturally indispensible based upon tying together those consumer values and the amazing stuff we’re creating which nobody has ever seen," he said in a statement.

It's Turbine's second executive hiring announcement in two weeks; the firm recently hired on Ken Surdan as VP of operations.
