Paris, France-based Ubisoft has acquired Brazilian independent developer Southlogic Studios, the companies announced Tuesday.

Southlogic's staff of around 20 developers, now under the Ubisoft umbrella, has created games for PC, handheld and consoles. The studio has also provided art outsourcing and porting services.

Southlogic, founded in 1996 in Porto Alegre, recently developed the casual game Imagine: Wedding Designer for Nintendo DS, which was published by Ubisoft.

Southlogic will be integrated into Ubisoft's existing Sao Paulo studio, although the Porto Alegre facility will be used as a satellite office. Southlogic management will report to Bertrand Chaverot, managing director of Ubisoft's Brazilian studio.

"This acquisition reinforces our commitment to attracting talent in South America, and Brazil in particular, further boosting the group's ambitious expansion plans," said Christine Burgess-Quémard, Ubisoft's executive director of worldwide studios.
