Ubisoft has confirmed this morning that it has acquired THQ Montreal and the rights to publish Obsidian-developed title South Park: The Stick of Truth.
The French publisher also confirmed that it has bought a new, unannounced IP as part of the deal.
“This deal adds experienced developers to our internal creative teams at a key moment in the cycle of the video game industry,” said president of Ubisoft Montreal Yannis Mallat.
Ubisoft’s moves for THQ’s assets were revealed earlier this week, with reports stating that Ubisoft paid $3.2 million for THQ Montreal and $3.2 milllion for the rights to publish South Park: The Stick Of Truth. The latter is scheduled for release this calendar year. This acquisition has no material impact on Ubisoft’s current fiscal year, the firm added.
THQ Montreal will now join Ubisoft’s development teams, which is already the second-largest in-house development staff in the world.
