The digital distributor is not offering Assassin’s Creed 2 or Silent Hunter V and the root cause could be an objection to the use of DRM.
"It's the latest in the Ubisoft DRM blow-up. Steam doesn't want to lose its reputation for customer service, and these games have angered its user-base,” a source told CVG.
Ubisoft issued a statement, saying: “The games listed are available for sale in all other countries on Steam. The fact it is not available on Steam UK has nothing to do with the DRM but is linked to a local business discussion between Ubisoft and Steam in UK.”
Attempts to download the games via Steam have yielded the same result, a message that reads: “Sorry! An error was encountered while processing your request: This item is currently unavailable in your region.”
Ubisoft has been on the sharp end of harsh criticism for implementing a restrictive DRM measure that requires PC gamers to be permenantly connected to the internet in order to play single-player titles. Consumer frustration has been compounded by recent Ubisoft server problems that left many locked out of their copies of Assassin’s Creed 2 and Silent Hunter V.
