Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot expects the cost of developing a top tier title for the next generation of hardware to double the current spend on AAA game creation.
Creating a major title for PS3 or Xbox 360 typically costs between $20 million and $30 million. Guillemot told CNBC that he expects the cost to rise to $60 million with the coming of new hardware.
"The next generation is going to be so powerful that playing a game is going to be the equivalent of playing a CGI movie today," the executive said.
He noted that he’d like to see the current hardware cycle extended for as long as possible, but that the platform makers, “pushed by the environment," will most probably take the next step sooner rather than later.
"For us, the current machines are very powerful and we can do high quality work. I'd like to stay with this generation as long as possible, but my customers will want the best machine possible."

Dreamhunk, let's take this discussion to a more appropriate venue:
http://www.edge-online.com/blogs/pc-vs-console-round-1
"Also whenever a real good PC Game comes forth it makes Consoles look like very old hardware. Quake, Doom 3, Crysis, now - Rage, Doom4(though I still doubt that it will cross crysis in visual Quality), Crysis is that good. It efficiently use Hardware available now and can load more on coming hardware."
Any yet, despite this list of games, you aren't winning me over. Sparkly visuals are very impressive sure, but at the end of the day, a good game is a good game. Halo 3 rules the Xbox Live roost because it is a very, very good game, that has been well supported by both developer and publisher. This and Rock Band are my most played games, and I'm really not looking at them going 'well, my Xbox is looking very old since I saw Crysis'
That the PlayStation 2 of all things managed to produce some amazing games 6, 7 years after launch shows you that the age of a platform doesn't matter a jot. It's what you do with it that counts.
here check this out, oh by the way a $300 pc is alot more powerful than a limited machine like a consoles

It might be more powerful, but it's about what you do with the power you have.
Also, 2 words for why a console is, for me, better than a PC, no matter how powerful the PC.
Rock Band.
yea well I have alot more genres than console and real game with better tech. you really want to try me ...lol
lets see i have rts, tbs, tbs rpg, sims, spaces, oceangames, pin ball games, muder mistery, mmo`s etc on my pc
let`s say pc gaming is cutting edge I even get more hours played on pc than consoles. my games last alot longer too.
All of those genre's are represented on consoles. I think I'm going to have to set up a separate discussion for this, because we really aren't understanding where each other are coming from.
lol you wish some those genres I listed can`t even run on a console lol what a joke. I don`t even think you even have ocean types games on consoles. Any time of sim would be a joke. your wasting my time if you don`t have any hardf acts.
I have no idea what you're talking about when you refer to "ocean-games"; so I thought I'd just cover all the bases,
Takes place in an OCEAN

About a thing from the OCEAN

Has OCEAN in the Title

A game made by OCEAN

Features a song by Billy OCEAN

ocean games that gameplay is based around the ocean.
That's right Alex, stop wasting everyone's time and let dreamhunk enlighten us with his breadth of knowledge!
Check out Alex Walker blog one, that's where he wants to take the discussion to. I have to say, it's very interesting.
How people try to spread misinformation like Indrema,
Slaves in China Plague in India, Whereas in India people from USA come for quality medical treatment on Cheap indian currency. And China has very strong Economy.
No need to worry the anti crist is coming, evil people will lose their rights soon, his kingdom is here pretty much. USA will give it`s power to the rome church soon I`m waiting for the lady in the white dress to show up

Is China Treating Africans Like Slaves?
Sep 29th 2008
http://www.bvblackspin.com/2008/09/29/africa-chineese-relations/
Human plague - India, 1994.
http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G1-15801383.html
The American medical system is highly dysfunctional and sorely lacking in compassion (which it should be designed never to do), but there's not a significant trend of Americans traveling to India to receive medical care.
Foreign nationals of many countries travel to China to buy and receive the kidneys of Chinese murdered by the government for profit.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2005/dec/11/health.china
And, Indrema, slaves are not good for the economy--freedom, liberty, and entrepreneurship are.
I think Yves will find that there's always a market for blockbusters, but why compete so heavily in such a ridiculous space when there are so many other places to be? Ubisoft is only able to compete because they've got the funds to do so, not because they're smart or strategic. The quality of their titles is just fine, but it's usually sad to see such a leading figure stick to such a narrow mindset.
I didn't want to break your double-post to yourself, but what the Hell, it's my day off.
You do realize that slavery - ie. unmonitored labor completely free of charge - is actually quite good for an economy, it's just horrible. Having a strong economy, in no way, disproves the existence of Slavery.
On to your second point. Why would someone go to India for medical treatment. It's good, but it's not that good. There are numerous countries far closer than India where a U.S. citizen may receive quality health care. Why a person would skip half-a-dozen countries just to go to India doesn't make any sense at all.
Madonna uses the NHS.
Much rather go to Cuba then India, because I heard they have better healthcare, if you're a middle-aged income family that lives in a developed country, of course.
Not only that but when you get out of the hospital you can smoke all the Cuban cigars you want, then check back in for lung cancer.
Life is so sweet.
That's because she paid UK tax and as such is entitled too.
I use the floo network to get around.
And this Indrema just posted Screenshots only of flash type games fron Dreamhunk's Links. See the links yourself.
Ok Let me clear All this right now, I am a Indie PC game developer working on a AAA high profile-PC only game.
1. First of all it started with greedy publishers for maximizing sales. Obviously Sony had only PS1 so they pushed it. Those days there were lots of PC exclusives. Microsoft saw the control (does not it want to close everything), so they pushed XBox by suppressing PC. And XBox worked. Now there are more games on Consoles, and a lot of them are very good. There are many people who still want to just pop in the disk and play the game and not worried about hardware. Then Intel graphics card that come in prebuilt PC's are also to blame a lot. I bought new PC and it could not play Quake 3 even in greater then 640 x 480. Though a very cheap NVidia card made almost every current game playable at atleast high settings. But I agree many people just want to play games. But you pay the price in mediocre and dumbed FPS experience, and gain in Combat games, Though you only need a controller on PC for such games. So PC is most versatile, but need little more knowledge. To be more knowledgeable is personal preference and I will not argue.
2. Sure No PC exclusive can sell more then a Multi Platform Title. Even Quake and Unreal Tournament were multiplatform on PC (Win, Mac, Linux). Multi Platform is very good.
3. Developers love PC, easier, better, they are baffled by varying hardware configurations, a strength and weakness simultaneously. Games are developed on PC with dev kits for console, so it is very easy to release a PC version as it is created first(But may be it is checked on Console first). But publishers want Console Exclusives. Not all though. So if a game is on XBox and PS3 it is generally on PC too. But if it is Exclusive to one console it is not anywhere.
4. still some people go to extreme of stupidity and put Star Wars - force unleashed on every platform except PC claiming PC cannot run It but DS can. Funny that Crysis run on 600$ PC at high and look lot better.
5. Only PC exclusive I remember is Crysis, and it fully and eficiently uses every high end PC component, so if it comes on Console they need to cut on Visuals and AI. Actually they could not get AI on consoles. It is very CPU intensive. Now they have somehow maxed the console performance also and got crysis 2 running in it, with necessary cut downs.
6. If Crysis could somehow come on consoles it would have sold lot more if its controls would have suited Consoles, like Call of Duty, meaning it would have.
7. Multiplatform is OK, as developers need high sells and more money. Why cut your legs. Only indies are not after money.
8. But Greedy publishers have snatched games on PC, made such an economic environment and unknowledgeable customers have boosted sells. If you really want to earn money go to casual, flash games, if u want to earn only money as more no. of people will play it. It is simple business. What would a FPS player do on Project Natal, Shoot Milo with Ray Gun.
9. Also whenever a real good PC Game comes forth it makes Consoles look like very old hardware. Quake, Doom 3, Crysis, now - Rage, Doom4(though I still doubt that it will cross crysis in visual Quality), Crysis is that good. It efficiently use Hardware available now and can load more on coming hardware.
10. So Ok play the good games wherever you want to play.
JUST donot Kill PC gaming by spreading bad words. If ever you will play Fallout 3 on XBox and then PS3 and then Finally on PC you will notice that it is far better looking on PC(Of course due to crappy DRM it is difficult to play on PC easily). DRM was put by publishers.
Also Consoles game are pirated to death in Asia. In India you can get modded PS3 from Sony Showroom openly and can play copied games on it(but not original disks). same with XBox 360. So Piracy is overrated then it is truly is on PC. People just listen to others and do not research themselves.
Stay away from Fads and enjoy games. And PC is going to soon comeback with good games(But they will be also on Consoles but dumbed down).
Saying something does not changes the Truth. Games are far better enjoyable on PC and it is Truth.
I applaud Dreamhunk's efforts on clearing misconceptions on PC Gaming.
Alright, Dreamhunk's got a new buddy to whine about PC gaming not being dead.
Of course it's not and it never will be. But you got it all wrong with these conspiracy theories :). The main reason for the weakened state of PC gaming is the low quality software being released in recent years. Variety has also always been a weakness for PC gaming and it absolutely got killed in the past decade. The breadth of shooters in the late '90s like Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Quake 3 Arena, Starsiege:Tribes, Descent 3, Sin, Delta Force, Rainbow Six, Half-Life, System Shock 2 and Jedi Knight got reduced to Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Brothers in Arms, Vietnam, Vietcong and Ghost Recon. What do you expect when every new game looks exactly like the last one. Strategy games from over-head army control turned into first person shooters or in the best case where just inferior to their predecessors (like HOMM 4/5 and AoE 3 for example). As for RPGs (the last popular genre on the PC), the picture is so ugly that I won't even discuss it. Bethesda being the leading developer with it's retarded experiments speaks for itself. So there's your real problem.
Did you respond to your own post, like, twice? That's Brilliant
Hey, I didn't post the link, & anybody can take a look at it if they want. I didn't say "Consoles are better". Dreamhunk's post was an argument for how PC games were going to kill console games. Then he "links" a bunch of Flash games. It's not my fault the games were bogus. If you think I'm one-sided, just click Dreamhunk's signature & read his posts for the last week/day/few hours.
But I'll be constructive. Penumbra is a PC-Exclusive that could be played on consoles, but isn't. It's the best example of a game that's extremely original in its design, but is too unconventional for console companies to publish.
for one alot of those are not just fash games, don`t even get me started I can start to list games not coming to consoles.
I think you need to check the list agin. If you want I can start adding a ton of links to from youtube games not coming consoles at all!!!!!!!!!!!
I done have time right now, but If you want I can start to mop the floor on this thread with hard facts and links. If you really want me to bring it I will!
Nexon7 said they were fash games, honestly I didn't research their technology that far.
Although I totally agree with your reference to your links as threats. Although you usually "bring it" regardless, I got that message loud & clear. No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You make a good point, Indrema. Keep it up!
lmao
Your wrong on some of your comments, top console game don`t out selll top pc gamings. Also the people who did force unleash got fired. they don`t make 7 million, 8 million or even 9 million
Not only that lucas arts game devs got trash by pc gamers all over the world, thos e same game devs got fired
http://forums.lucasarts.com/thread.jspa?threadID=120668&tstart=0

http://pc.ign.com/articles/873/873303p1.html
The top console game don't out selll top PC gamings at all, you're right on that one.
Who didn't make 7 million, or million or even 9 million? The Lucas arts developers who got fired supposedly? Here is another case where your post is near illegible. I think you were trying to say that some developers got fired because the game didn't sell 7m, 8m, or 9m (strange way to put that you could have just said it sold less than 7 million but whatever). From what I've read, TFU sold over 5 million copies, which seems pretty successful to me. But of course I could be reading your post wrong and not actual have a clue what you really meant. You could have meant the developers don't make 7 million dollars each (or 8 million, or even 9 million!).
Ok first off top game devs on the pc make like 5 million,7 million, 8, million. That is why you see Maxis and Blizzard never really make a console game.
5 million multiplat also the force unleashed was the worse and must dispointing starwars game ever made.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdDCF1wHIO8
force unleashe only sold because of the name. Alot of gamers was hating on it.
If you read the forum link in above post the mod from lucas arts said the game devs got fired.
Perhaps Maxis and Blizzard don't want to make console games? Has that crossed anyone's mind?
Look at Valve, most of their games are meant for the PC. The PC version of Team Fortress 2 gets all the updates while the console version are denied these updates.
Blizzard have always made PC games for as long as I can remember, and they do a good job at it.
the facts remain that no consoles game can top the best pc games
console games don`t make over 16 millin,7million,8 million,5 million.

No thanks, I'll just stick to sales numbers.
yea microsoft and sony are billions in the red, I`m sure their share holders are really happy. console game devs are in the red or going bankuprt. You want to to why actvision did so well. it`s because of blizzard. share holders are not looking at actvisoon they were looking blizzard.
I don't think you quite grasp the term "in the red." It refers to a financial graph where your company is losing more money than its current assets. Neither company is in that position.
Let's look at Sony:
Revenue -
Down $78.877 billion U.S.
Yes, their shareholders are probably not happy, but it's due to a variety of factors. However, as far as being in the "Red"
Assets -
$230.5Billion US(March 31, 2009)
As you can see, they are actually quite far from being in debt.
____________________________________________________________
Your Microsoft statement makes no sense at all:
Revenue -
Up $60.420 billion U.S.
Looking at the numbers, you can see Microsoft's had a great year.
Assets -
$72.793 billion US
With them as well, very much in the black
These are the public sales figures released, by law, for shareholders. Where are you getting your information, Dream?
microsoft is in the red agin in fact they must have huge problems right now
http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/02/09/microsofts-80-billion-and-growing-y...
Thats share price, not assets.
Oh my God, Dreamhunk, you're like the king of old links. That Yahoo business ended a long time ago.
We get that you love the PC, but you're miserable at marketing. Did you not see what was going there? Microsoft was buying yahoo at half stock & half cash. Whatever the stock price sat at, they would match that price in out-of-pocket cash. Since stock is variable worth, you deflate the stock price. There's a lot of ways to do this. This decreases your monetary responsibility. Once you own Yahoo, microsoft can make some big announcement that generates "Buzz" & your stock goes back up to normal.
It didn't work, mainly because Yahoo figured it out, but that's another story.
Activision was already the second largest publisher in the world when it bought Blizzard.
actvision was mudiim size publisher before blizzard.
What??? Medium-sized? EA was the only publisher bigger than them before their merger with Blizzard.
I'd agree with this.
here some real hard facts about consoles

Your first link is 4 years old, and refers to a hardware manufacturer attempting to enter the market for the first time. Nintendo, for reference, make a profit from every piece of hardware sold.
Sony might well have lost that much money on the PS3, but to my knowledge, the PC manufacturers don't sell things at a loss. The PS3 is a loss leader, Sony recoup the money on software sales.
I'd be shocked if PC wasn't the biggest platform in the world, given how many PC's there are capable of playing games.
Online game revenue might be huge, but a huge part of it is going to Activision-Blizzard, so that skews things somewhat.
Are you seriously promoting gold farmers as being a good thing?
Your last link is the same EA story as before.
---
Will you ever admit that PC and consoles have been, and will continue to co-exist quite happily?
oh I have alot more more recent too, did you notice the 68 billion. You want to know much sony and microsoft have spent on console and they are not goiing to get back.
sony about 7 billlion and microsft 10 billion
you want to know where consoles are at and console game devs
http://www.fayobserver.com/Articles/2009/06/16/909944
I`m telling you don`t even try to get me started because I will mop the floor with you,
Wow, sales of games consoles decline in a recession!
I like how you keep ignoring Nintendo in your doom and gloom picture of the console scene. That the DS and Wii are printing money not a factor to consider?
Wii Sports.
Dreamhunk, very few games sell that many copies, even PC games. The only PC game to reach 16 million is The Sims. The Sims 2 has only reached 13 million in comparison, and World of Warcraft and Starcraft are the only other PC games to top 10 million.
There are over 20 games to have topped 10 million on consoles, There appear to be only 8 PC games to have managed over 5 million. I'm really not sure where you are going with this.
