A new promotional deal between publisher Ubisoft and fast food chain Wendy's will put the Petz franchise on the meal table.

Starting March 23, Ubisoft will be offering Wendy's Kids Meals based on the successful Petz pet simulation franchise. It's the first time that the two companies have worked together, and also the first time Ubisoft has brought its own IP to a fast food chain (or as Ubisoft marketing SVP Tony Key called it, a "quick service restaurant").

In 2007, Ubisoft acquired Petz studio Digital Kids, which is based in Japan, with the intent of expanding its kid-friendly lineup. The series has sold 17 million units worldwide, making it Ubisoft's fourth-largest franchise, tying with Ghost Recon, according to Ubisoft's website.

Key called the Wendy's promotion "an important milestone" for the mass market brand.

Petz Kids Meals will be branded with characters from the Dogz and Catz games, and include activity games as well as a discount coupon for the Petz Dogz Pack for Nintendo DS or the Petz Sports Pack for Wii. A Petz PC game or toy will also be included in the bag.

The promotion, which will also integrate with Wendy's website, will run for five weeks in the U.S. and Canada.
