Ubisoft thinks it’s unlikely that Move or Kinect will extend the lifecycle of the current console generation to the extent hoped for by platform holders Sony and Microsoft.
When asked by GamesIndustry.biz if the new motion control peripherals can extend the life of PS3 and Xbox 360 beyond another two years, European MD Alain Corre said: “I don't think so, no.
"Yes, it's a good extension of the lifecycle for a certain length of time and it's also a good way to capture some consumers they didn't have on the casual side, because Microsoft's 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3 do not have the casual customers. So it will bring in a new category of customer for them.
"Now, will it prevent them from releasing brand new technology in the next five years? I don't think so," he added.
Microsoft has said that it expects Kinect, which is set to launch this November, to extend the Xbox 360’s lifecycle for another five years. Sony has always spoken of a ten year plan for PS3, which launched in late 2006. Move is releasing next month.
