EA’s FIFA 10 has topped the UK all formats chart for the third week running.
The football title – which EA has labelled “the fastest selling sports game ever” – suffered a 54 per cent drop in weekly sales, but has now “sailed comfortably” past one million UK sales in three weeks, according to GfK Chart-Track.
FIFA 10 held off competition from new PS3 exclusive Uncharted 2: Among Thieves to head the rankings during the week ended October 17.
Other new entries during the week included Sega’s Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games in fifth, EA’s Brutal Legend in seventh, and Bethesda’s Fallout 3: Game Of The Year Edition in tenth place.

UK 2009 chart history
Does this data reflect just two days of Uncharted 2 sales? I think that should be kept in mind; if it reflects two days it is hardly a fair comparison against an extra five days of FIFA 10 sales. I am pretty confident that with a more longer time-horizon Uncharted 2 will have strong legs and that the advertising effort that Sony have put into promoting this game (which has been impressive; the best support by far they have given to one of their first-party IP) will pay off.
Well, FIFA might have had more days, but new titles sell in huge amounts the first 2 days. It's not unusual for new releases to outsell those released the week before.
Yeah true; however FIFA 10 is pretty much riding a wave right now and is present on four platforms (PS3, 360, Wii, PS2); So I think that could have something to do with it also. I think we need to look about 8 weeks from now; see where Uncharted 2 is on that list then. I have the individual format lists with me, and Uncharted 2 is above FIFA 10 on the PS3 and in the individual formats list Killzone 2 and LittleBigPlanet have been on that list for a few weeks. Does anyone have the figures for the original Uncharted? How many units it sold? Considering the development time and cost was less this time around for Uncharted 2 I think Naughty Dog will be looking to best Uncharted One sales at least.
the franchise and the studio that make it are both owned by Sony. it's no more madness than Forza remaining exclusive to the 360.
Well, what they didn't tell you in this article is FIFA's numbers include PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and Wii sales. But you already knew that of course.
ODST was released only on one console and it was number one in the UK (and US) its first week of availability. It's not that unusual. Well, maybe it is for a Sony 1st party.
Ouch!
ODST was released the week before FIFA though.
Yes and that means that keeping a game like Uncharted an exclusive is simply madness.
Yeah and Sony releasing their internally developed, first-party IP on the competition's platforms makes such perfect sense. Of course.
Uncharted is not a system seller. It's a quite unknown ip and you''ll easily find the game used by the next week. It's a terrific game which simply does not use all it's selling potential. Maybe not a release on the 360 but maybe a PC release (like mass effect) would have helped.
I think you're right as far as it being a relatively new IP and I would add a not-too-popular genre. At least not as popular as some other genres. As I said in another post the game seems to be great (I don't know I'm just going by the 96 meta score) but sadly won't sell bucketloads...or maybe it will. PC releases never hurt either.
There will be no release on the 360 or PC. It is a PS3 exclusive.
the franchise and the studio that make it are both owned by Sony. it's no more madness than Forza remaining exclusive to the 360.
I don't know the actual sales figures, but I imagine Sony are pretty pleased with Uncharted 2 being second to the behemoth that is Fifa 10. That and the money they get from Fifa 10 sales on PS3, PS2 and PSP.
Great point. I would imagine that game in the UK is like Madden in the U.S. Other than maybe the largest of franchises (Halo, GOW, the other GOW, FF, GT) no game is going to beat a multi-console release like that.
That seems more responsible than your first post. Also bear in mind; Uncharted is not Halo; it does not have a massive fanbase and a 6 year history behind it. It is a new IP that is just now starting to get advertised. Further it is on one platform; unlike FIFA 10 which is on four. Nevertheless in the long run I think Uncharted 2 will do well; Sony have put in some decent advertising behind this game.
