Despite a 17% decline in sales from last week’s performance, Wii Fit has now become the Kyoto-based company’s joint-second longest runner at the top of the UK charts, with a combined total of seven weeks at number one during its nine months at the retailers.
If Wii Fit clears one more week at the top – a task which looks more likely by virtue of its ‘evergreen’ credentials – then it will have made more UK number ones than past-phenomenon Pokemon Gold. However, Nintendo’s longest-serving UK number one – Pokemon Yellow – is far in the distance with ten combined weeks at the top.
Meanwhile, Treyarch’s World At War keeps its grip on second spot for the fifth week in a row, and is once again adjacent to EA’s FIFA 09, which climbs back to third. EA’s soccer sim – which surprised everyone when it stole last year’s Christmas number one at the eleventh hour – enjoys a nine percent sales rise. Activision’s war epic, on the other hand, sees a sales decline of eleven percent; a fall slightly offset by its three percent sales rise last week.
EA’s other release, Skate 2, drops two places to fifth following a 28 percent sales slide. EA’s The Lord of Rings: Conquest continues its sales fall, dropping to eleventh after a second successive sales slide. The game debuted in the charts at third.
Above Skate 2 is the rejuvenated DS title, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, which wasn’t even in the top 40 two weeks ago, but rockets 54 percent in sales this week to land in fourth.
Mario Kart Wii, which was recently found to be the UK’s biggest-selling title of 2008, climbs two places to sixth following a five percent sales rise. Wii Play drops from sixth to seventh, and Ubisoft’s My Fitness Coach drops from seventh to eighth.
Eidos’ Tomb Raider: Underworld is a non-mover at ninth; still enjoying a sales increase of 2 percent following the game’s PS2 release.
And as buzz surrounds the newest editions of EA’s Need for Speed series, its most recent title climbs back into the top ten.
