UK Games Industry Advocates Retain MP Status

While Tiga says hung parliament created by last nightís UK general election could work in the favour of the domestic games sector.

Leading games industry supporters have retained their status as members of parliament following yesterday's UK general election.

Labour's Tom Watson will serve a fourth term as MP for West Bromwich East, Conservative Ed Vaizey was re-elected MP for Wantage, and Liberal Democrat Don Foster kept his Bath seat.

Active supporters of the domestic games sector, the trio tackled questions from senior industry figures at March’s inaugural ELSPA Question Time event.

Meanwhile Richard Wilson, CEO of UK developer trade body Tiga, told Develop that the hung parliament - which means no party has more than half of MPs in the House of Commons – created by last night’s election “may well work in the favour” of the UK games industry.

“I always remain optimistic,” he said. “All the major parties have stated commitments to tax measures to help support the UK games industry. I feel there is a growing consensus about the issue. No minority government will want to upset more people than it has to... I believe they will continue to support games tax relief because it will help create jobs and future investment."
