Unity Technologies Secures $5.5 Million Funding

Atari CEO David Gardner named in Series A funding round for the company behind the Unity multiplatform development engine

Unity Technologies, the company behind the Unity multiplatform development engine, has announced that it has secured new funding of $5.5 million.

The Series A financing was led by Sequoia Capital and also included David Gardner, the CEO of Atari, and Diane Greene, the founder and former CEO of VMware. Roelof Botha, partner at Sequoia Capital, and Greene will be joining the board of directors.

The Unity development platform for web, PC, Mac, Wii and iPhone is used by Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online, as well as by more than 325 iPhone games.

"We are very pleased with the market recognition and adoption of our products and technology," said Unity Technologies CEO David Helgason. "It is particularly gratifying to see that our offering can take the pain out of development for industry powerhouses such as Electronic Arts as well as individuals and small development studios."
