Viacom Sells Xfire

PC gaming community service ìto continue uninterrupted for its usersî following acquisition by Titan Gaming.

Viacom has sold PC gaming community service Xfire to Titan Gaming for an undisclosed sum.

Xfire, which has over 16 million users, is a free, ad-supported download that allows players to use friend lists, instant messaging and other community features within PC games. Viacom acquired the Silicon Valley-headquartered firm for $102 million in 2006.

California-based Titan is the developer of a platform that helps game makers create skill-based competitions.

“Titan will be taking on the Xfire name, with a focus towards ongoing innovation in the gaming space,” read a statement on Xfire’s website. “The Xfire services will continue uninterrupted for its users. Xfire redefined how gamers communicate, Titan intends to build upon this tradition and utilize the Xfire platform to help gaming companies better engage their users. We look forward to continuing and expanding upon the Xfire service.”
