3DS sales doubled in Japan during the week ended July 17, propelling the portable to the top of the hardware rankings.
Nintendo’s latest handheld shifted 46,637 units compared to second-placed PSP’s 26,551 sales, a figure that was flat week-over-week, Andriasang reports.
The spike in 3DS sales, largely driven by the release of the Flare Red model, coincided with the launch of Star Fox 3D, although the N64 remake only managed to place at number six on the software chart, behind five other new entries.
Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2011 for PS3 headed the rankings, followed by Taiko Drum Master Portable DX for DS, Inazuma Eleven Striker for Wii, Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2011 for PSP and Puyo Puyo for DS.
01. Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2011 (Konami)
02. Taiko Drum Master Portable DX (Namco Bandai)
03. Inazuma Eleven Strikers (Level 5)
04. Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2011 (Konami)

103ds sales have spiked everytime a n64 re-release has been... well... released. I cant understand why people are buying a whole new console for these games when they are out on virtual console, or buy an n64 and experience all of its amazing library for less. The mind boggles.
People can buy and play these games elsewhere. But these (re)releases are the best versions of these games out there and people will always have money to burn.
Because gaming has beome mainstream and the "first/second" generation of gamers are getting older, the re-releases have nostalgia value as well as new challenges for third gen gamers.I genuinely think there are people getting a 3DS bought for them by parents who played the Ocarina first time round and want to see how well their kids do at it. In fact I think this type of gaming happens more often than we think. (My son still can't beat me at SF2 but he tries bless him).I'm going to try to invent a term now for this type of competitive spirit: Temporal Scoreboarding?Generation Gap Gaming?
Any better suggestions...
Hereditary Addiction...?
They look better on 3ds than they did on N64 also lets not forget, these are great titles. That said, Nintendo really need to pull their finger out and get some original (and good) titles on the 3ds and some gamecube stuff to show that it can do more than N64 games.
In the UK as far as I know there are only 3 3ds games worth buying: Zelda, Pilotwings & Ridge Racer. That really is appalling for a console that has been out for over 6 months.
Original and good needed. Agreed there.
What was the last original and good game that nintendo produced? Wii sports?
O noes!! no more unoriginal Super Mario Galaxy perfectness Nintendo!
Call me sad but I am playing Kirby's Epic Yarn and the game is full of creativity. I also believe the level design in Donkey Kong Country Returns is better than any other company can manage these days.
maybe im just being cynical but i honestly don't think nintendo is bothering to put in the effort to support the 3ds. the future lineup looks unoriginal and the third party stuff has either been released elsewhere or isn't much to get excited about. the ds really wowed me for years with its new approach to gaming and it had some genuinely great titles. but the 3ds just seems very meh to me... then again, contemporary gaming in general seems very meh to me lately. i have popped back into my collection of 90s games and once again i am having fun gaming again. ( i got inspired by edges classic reviews). have games become boring these days or is it just me?
Actually, just remembered, i am playing scott pilgrimm vs the world and i am thoroughly enjoying that too. Can that be regarded as a modern game or a retro game?....
Nintendo does bother, but I think they're holding back for the Vita launch. Hopefully they'll pull out all stops then and justify my 250 euro viewmaster.
