US Wii sales have topped 30 million since launching in November 2006, making it “the fastest-selling console in the history of the industry”, according to Nintendo.
The platform holder said that the milestone was reached in 45 months, 15 months quicker than the next bestselling console.
“More than any other videogame system in history, Wii has expanded the world of video games to new audiences,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales and marketing. “This milestone is another reminder that people want fun games they can play with others – all at a value-minded price.”
Nintendo also provided lists of the top selling first and thirdparty Wii games in the US to date.
