The Japanese phenomenon Dragon Quest is coming to the Wii, Square Enix has announced.
During a media event in Japan (where Dragon Quest IX was given an official Japanese release date for March 28 next year), Square Enix said that the tenth iteration of the sensationally-successful series will migrate to Nintendo's Wii console.
No details were given beyond this statement, and it is not known if the Wii version will remain an exclusive, though the financial allure of a dual-platform release across both Wii and DS makes it a distinct possibility.
Dragon Quest X will not mark the first time the series has found itself inside a Wii (with Dragon Quest Swords being released earlier this year), yet this is the first Wii iteration of the central franchise.

Yay
Big day for you Wii owners huh? A "hardcore" game that's not made by Nintendo that will sell (and most likely will deserve to sell well). Good news. And I thought they already announced Dragon Quest for the Wii? Did I miss something?
They had Dragon Quest Swords, a 3rd person action adventure game in the line of Zelda. This is teh first actual Dragon Quest Game.
I am glad to see it come to the Wii exclusively. The Wii seems to be the best console for the Franchise. It's style is a lot less realistic than the Final Fantasy Franchise and I have enjoyed every release of DQ I have played.
Between this and Monster Hunter 3, to name a couple of titles, There will be a strong surge in 3rd party games sales on the Wii.
Dragon Quest Swords was nothing like Zelda. It was an on-rails action game (or to be more descriptive, an old-school hack-n-slash with RPG elements).
@ Nick - the story you saw was the rumored port of Dragon Quest IX to Wii (instead of just releasing on the DS). This is an announcement for DQX.
I was describing perspective not gameplay. So yes, you are right, gameplay wise it is nothing like Zelda.
Damn. A true, blue WEDNESDAYTON if I ever did see it.
