First announced at this year’s E3 Media and Business Summit and described by Edge magazine as “a digital toy with little, besides the format, to tie it to the world of games at all”, Wii Music represents the next step in Nintendo’s bid to bring the expanded audience to Wii.
“Wii Sports introduced new players to the world of videogames. Wii Fit got even more people interested in fun and fitness,” says Nintendo. “Now Wii Music builds on that inclusive legacy by letting people turn their living rooms into fun concert halls. It brings the experience of performing music to people who think learning an instrument is too difficult.”
Featuring more than 60 instruments, Wii Music will get gamers moving their Wii controllers as if they were actually playing the real thing, while the game turns players' movements into “great music”. Certain instruments like drums will be compatible with the Wii Balance Board.
The game will also feature 50 existing songs which users can play along to, or choose to add their own new beats and twists to. Songs can be passed backwards and forwards between friends via the Wii Message Board.
We contacted Nintendo for details of a European release date but were simply told that one hasn’t been announced yet.
