Wii Play has sold 11.1 million copies in the US since launch, making it North America’s top-selling game this decade.

Offering a series of minigames and coming bundled with a free Wii controller, Wii Play has often been labelled as a piece of training software for users new to Nintendo's console. It charted ahead of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (8.25 million sales), Wii Fit (7.9 million), GTA: Vice City (6.9 million) and Mario Kart Wii (6.7 million), according to NPD sales data, reports IGN.

In May, Nintendo revealed global lifetime sales figures for first party Wii and DS titles that shifted over a million copies during the fiscal year ended March 31. Wii Play was the best-selling game not to be bundled with Wii, moving 23 million copies.

I love wii play, i prefer it to wii sports.

There is nothing funnier than watching someone completely inexperienced on games trying to play the neon hockey thing

I bought 3 copies, and then sold two of the games on over ebay (presumably to people who already had as many wiimotes as they wanted). It worked out liek I was getting the wiimotes for about £18, which saved me a bit of cash. Some of the games are quite fun. I like the duck-hunt one..

It's not a great game by any stretch. But what a sales masterstroke from Nintendo. What is incredible is that the other manufacturers haven't taken note and successfully packaged their spare controllers with games.

That would take the "sting" out of buying shovel ware for full price! Damn, that wasnt fair, nintendo's party game's are several cuts above the third party developers efforts in that genra. Carnival games=shovel ware..Wii Play= good worthwhile fun, but still expensive if it DID NOT come with the free controller, or was it that the game was only £5.00 and the controller £29.00? ;)

Wii Play is not shovelware - it's actually a lot of fun with two players. It's a good game for what it is - a Wiimote tutorial.

True Ken.

I think it's hard to compare sales of this "title" to those of traditional retail releases since this game was 10 dollar pack in with a controller. Still I guess it technically was a game, too.
