Two full access passes to the Montreal International Game Summit in November up for grabs from Edge.
MIGS was created in 2004 to support the needs of the Quebec game development industry, which now numbers 7,000 workers in the region, but it has international scope.
The conference aims to develop the transfer of knowledge and expertise, to increase the influence of Quebec industry overseas and to encourage exchanges and communication between the industry’s stakeholders. Specialist and high-level, MIGS covers numerous fields from artistic creation to design, production, programming and business.
This year, the conference will include over 80 talks and round tables given by international leaders of the game industry and spread over five tracks: art, business, design, production and tech.
Highlights, according to advisory board coordinator Jason Della Rocca are:
Heather Chaplin of the New School arts college in New York, will talk Guy Culture: “Heather kicked up a firestorm of debate from her five-minute rant at GDC. Now she’ll have a full hour to kick our butts!”
Our very own Randy Smith, from Tiger Style, who will be speaking about How to Make Games that Aren’t Fun:
“As a valid form of human expression, games should be able to address all aspects of the human condition. There’s more to being human than fun.”
Liza Wood from Wet developer Artificial Mind and Movement will present Things I Swore I Would Never Do to Someone Else: “I’m looking forward to some really juicy in-the-trenches war stories from Liza. Generally, we are all good people, but yes, crunch leads to do crazy things sometimes.”
