Microsoft has announced Must-Have Games, a six-week promotion that will see a raft of new titles released for Windows Phone 7.
The firm declined to reveal when the promotion would launch – saying only that it would be kicking off “this Spring”.
First up is Hydro Thunder Go, a remake of the arcade classic, under development at Microsoft Game Studios. Also promised is Sega’s Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, and a port of iOS tower defence title GeoDefense.
Also announced were Windows Phone 7 ports of other well-known titles. PopCap’s Plants Vs Zombies, and a conversion of iOS hit Doodle Jump by GameHouse, will be released as part of the promotion.
Rounding off the list is a port of the all-conquering Angry Birds, which has been downloaded over 75m times across iOS, Android, PC, Mac and more. It will make its Windows Phone 7 debut courtesy of Microsoft Game Studios.
A suite of highly recognisable games is just what the Windows Phone 7 platform needs, and a handy distraction from Microsoft’s admission yesterday that its first software update for its operating system had a failure rate of one in ten.
