Activision has announced that the first two Call Of Duty: World At War map packs have been downloaded over four million times.

At the same time the company confirmed plans to launch a third downloadable map pack for the Treyarch developed game in August.

The new PS3 and Xbox 360 DLC will feature three multiplayer maps (Battery, Revolution and Breach), co-developed with partner Certain Affinity, and one new zombie map (Der Riese).

In a May earnings call, Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith spoke of the growing importance of downloadable content. “Beyond direct accretive revenue generation, this extends our shelf life, helping to insulate us from the used game market and in turn allowing us to hold pricing longer,” he said.

Call of Duty: World At War has sold over 11 million copies across PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
