Activision’s Call of Duty: World at War has achieved a third successive week at the top of the UK all-format charts, according to data provided by Chart Track.
Oddly enough, Treyarch’s successor to Modern Warfare actually dropped 30 percent in sales; a fall that was certainly the exception to the general trend of climbing software turnover (around a third of all titles in the top 40 enjoyed a sales boost.)
Crucially for EA, Need for Speed: Undercover was one of those climbers. The annually-released street racer – which fell short of expectations last week when entering the charts at number four – has enjoyed a 35 percent boost in all-format sales and now sits just below Activision’s war shooter. Below that is another EA game, FIFA 09, which has also received a increase in sales (12 percent) despite dropping to third.
Mario Kart Wii drops down the pack accordingly, from third to fourth, yet takes a 17 percent sales climb. Another Nintendo evergreen – Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training – holds fifth, climbs 28% in sales, and continues to ignore the fact that it was released in Europe in June 2006.
Konami’s Pro Evo and Tomb Raider both climb the charts along with an increase in sales, landing in sixth and seventh respectively. Nintendo’s Wii Play and its bundled Wii remote climbs around 3 percent in sales; enough to take it from tenth to eighth.
The only non-Nintendo exclusive to make it into the top ten is Insomniac’s Resistance 2 for the PS3; a fact you should definitely repeat to someone living in the era of Gamecubes and PS2s. The results must be disappointing for Sony and insomniac; launch week sales of Resistance 2 are only some two-thirds of the original. And we’re quite sure it’ll not see a late controversy-boost that the original enjoyed last time round.
