A new $1.99 iPhone app has been released that allows you to sign into the service securely using your existing Xbox Live credentials.

According to the firm behind the app, the program has been designed for hardcore Xbox 360 gamers and iPhone owners. The app retrieves your friends Xbox Live stats such as their gamerscore, online status, gamer pictures, avatars, latest games and achievements. You can also send and receive messages using the app.

The full set of features reads:

  • Sign in securely using your Xbox Live credentials. 360 Live automatically retrieves your friends.
  • Complete Gamertags management. Add, remove, accept or reject pending requests.
  • An organized Friends List. Grouped by status (Online, Offline, etc.)
  • Gamer Profile and details including gamerscore, bio, location, country, gamercard, avatar, etc.
  • Check your friends complete games history.
  • Compare locked and unlocked achievements per game and gamertag.
  • Send and receive messages. You can even send messages to multiple recipients!
  • Gamercard coverflow style carrousel on landscape mode!

Microsoft may axe the $1.99 charge for the app though as Joystiq reports that back in August ‘08 Microsoft mandated that all Xbox Live-related applications be free.

By omitting a link and using vague language like 'the firm behind the app' the article sort of purposely obscures the fact that this isn't a Microsoft app, merely some enterprising iPhone developer leveraging the same open Live web APIs that drive 360voice.com, et. al.

Created by Xavier Larrea. 360 Live is an unofficial app and in no way endorsed or affiliated to the Microsoft Corporation. Xbox, Xbox Live and the Xbox logos are either registered trademarks or trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or other countries.

Aren't Microsoft going to be a little annoyed that a third party is making money without their endorsement. How long do you give it before the app is removed and the developer castigated by Microsoft's legal team?

Then the App miraculously re-released by MS for an extra quid

Edge may have been a little cagey with the wording of this article particularly the name of the app and its developer for good reason.

I just realised in my good nature and eagerness to help out I might have drop the poor guy in it... Oops

A name or link would be nice.

Here you go duder it's called 360 Live App click the link on the bottom and it'll whisk you away to the correct section of the AppStore :D Hope that helps

Thanks for that, was just about to edit my post to say I'd found it, but the link in the article suggests it's for the August '08 article, rather than a post about the app. Poor wording.

They are expected to drop the charge? Hahahahaha! Microsoft? Drop charges? Hahahahaha!

The app will probably make your iPhone RROD - both xbox and iPhone are fragile little beasts!
