Microsoft is to hold a news conference in Japan tomorrow when it is expected to announce an Xbox 360 price cut in the country.
While the exact date that the Japanese price cut will become effective isn’t yet clear, other parts of the Asia-Pacific region will see Xbox 360 price reductions from September 10, according to Microsoft Hong Kong’s Julie Leong.
The suggested retail price of the 120GB Xbox 360 Elite console will be lowered by around 28 per cent to $305 in Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan, reports Network World.
Having introduced Xbox 360 price cuts in Europe and the US last week, Microsoft delayed making similar announcements for the Asia Pacific region in order to give the new Elite SKUs, which no longer ship with HDMI cables, time to reach stores.
Last Friday Microsoft dropped the price of the Xbox 360 Elite by £30 to £199.99 and by $100 to $299. In addition, the platform holder raised the cost of the Xbox 360 Arcade by £30 to £159.99 in the UK and announced plans to phase out the Pro model. The move came shortly after Sony unveiled the widely rumoured PS3 Slim at a new reduced price point and announced cuts to existing PS3 models.
In late May Microsoft announced that worldwide Xbox 360 sales had surpassed 30 million units. Over one million Xbox 360s have been sold in Japan.
