Microsoft has again apologised for pulling Sky Player on Xbox 360, blaming “unprecedented levels of simultaneous demand” for the service’s suspension.
“Sky Player on Xbox 360 launched on Tuesday 27th October and was met with phenomenal demand, with many tens of thousands of customers attempting to sign-up within the first hour of launch,” the firm said in a statement. “Unfortunately due to the unprecedented levels of simultaneous demand, we did not have the capacity to satisfy all service requests and therefore temporarily suspended all access to the service.
“The rollout will be implemented in phases to ensure that consumers experience both a smooth sign-up process and high-quality experience. We apologise to all customers that have not been able to experience Sky Player on Xbox 360, we assure them that this is being rectified and we thank them for their patience.”
First announced in May, Sky Player on Xbox 360 will allow Xbox Live Gold members in the UK and Ireland to access a range of content to view live or on-demand when it resumes. The basic viewing package will cost non-Sky TV customers £15 per month.
Complete nonsense! Its just another poorly realised release from M$ but Sky have helped out with this time. Why do I want to watch football that's around five minutes behind and not in HD when I already have a Sky+ HD box that does the opposite?
This is just another gimmicky add on for M$hite's cheap ass console
I'd prefer to use a Sky + box and not add more wear and tear to an already fragile gaming system.
am I alone in thinking this is the worse case of wheel re-invention in the history of the modern age? You own an xbox 360, which sits on top of a sky box. The sky box can find then go onto record any program up to 1 week in advance, or an entire series, literally in under 10 seconds. Nothing online even comes close to matching it's incredible ability to get right to where you want to be, right when you want to. It has anything up to 360gig of storage space too. And MS thinks we would rather funnel it all through the noisy and under powered (on the storage front) xbox instead? Why? More to the point, who are the lemmings overwhelming the service? And do they know the compressed download into said xbox will never match the skybox for quality of picture?
Having seen the PC version break up and crash I am not surprised the Xbox one did the same thing. I seriously doubt most UK owners were jamming the system to make it crash, its just poorly coded.
What a load of horseshit. Did they think we'd be impressed by their utter failure to forecast and plan for whatever level of demand was placed on the service upon its launch? Does anybody even buy Microsoft's PR BS anymore?
They've certainly succeeded in getting more coverage for this pathetic launch here on Edge! What is this, the third or fourth Sky Player story this week?
