Xbox 360 outsold PlayStation 3 in Japan for the month of September, according to stats from Enterbrain.
It's the first time Microsoft has beaten Sony in Japan over an entire month. Xbox 360 shifted 53,547 against PS3's 33,071. As always, Wii dominated the console market with sales of 109,548 .
Microsoft's performance is due to a price cut and the release of Square Enix RPG Infinite Undiscovery.
In the handhelds sector DS sold 234,477 against PSP's 109,274.
its the price cut along with a few appealing rpgs.ps3 is more expensive with no real contenders for september.still big news for microsoft though.
I think with all the games nowadays being multiplatform, the develpoers are not taking full advantage of the PS3 full capabilities. It's like the PS3 is essentially playing XBOX 360 games..
You know a lot about programming right?
You don't have to be a programmer to figure out that developers develop for the lead sku (360) then port. Or develop for the least common denominator so they know they can port. I can't claim to know whether or not Sony is full of it when they say the PS3 is so much more powerful than the 360 (haven't seen anything that would prove it is). So I don't really know if the 360 is the "least common denominator" or not, but it is the lead console when it comes to installed base (I’m referring to HD consoles). Even factoring in the Wii the 360 has a crazy like 40-50% of the total software revenue. One thing I did read recently from a couple different sources (and the developers themselves, one being capcom) that developers are developing based on PC architecture then porting to the 360 and PS3. The 360’s from what I've READ architecture is similar to a PC so it’s much easier to port as the PS3 is unique in that it’s not a lot like a PC. Hence, developers using those means of developing have an easier time porting to the more traditional 360 hardware than they do the more eccentric PS3 hardware. You don't have to be a developer to read. I think whether or not the PS3 is more powerful, it probably isn’t being utilized as efficiently as it can be, whether or not that would result in significantly better looking games or not is anyone’s guess. But I don’t think you can just dismiss someone’s opinion based on the fact that they’re not programmers.
"the PS3 is essentially playing XBOX 360 games"
I was pointing out that it's not THAT simple, whether you're a programmer or not. Nick, you just expand on my doubt, which is closer to your opinion than you think.
Didn't say anything about the "power" of the Cell though - don't be paranoid. ^_^
Gyak,
Fair enough.
Xbox 360 is going to CONTINUE OUTSELLING the Playstation 3 for quite a while!
Why?
AWESOME GAMES that the Japanese gamers LOVE to play!
Examples:
Star Ocean 4 is going to increase sales, just like we saw with Tales of Vesperia and Infinite Undiscovery.
The Last Remnant is also a game that Xbox 360 will have available by the end of the year, and the Japanese consumers are looking forward to that a LOT.
Fable 2 is going to be SUPER SUCCESSFUL, too!
You're wrong.
Why?
Two words: biased fanboyism.
I think it will continue to outsell the PS3, but not in the long run.
I have two more words for Kim...Microsoft Employee.
I think there's a definite truth to the claims that the PS3 has not reached its full potential. From its launch, the machine was immediately capable of either coming close to or replicating the exact results of the 360 - while that machine had been out and about a lot longer. Now, these results on the 360 certainly are impressive and there have been and will be some awesome titles on the machine. However, the moment an engine gets developed/finished that will utilize the PS3s capabilities a little more, I think it has a chance of surpassing these results. However, if Microsoft decides to release a 720 console and Sony chooses to wait, their machine will have to directly compete with this next-next gen thing. It'll just be the PS3 that will be loads cheaper which will possibly still give Sony the upper hand.
I'm surprised to still see Sony fans still clinging to the 'PS3 is more powerful because Sony say so' mantra after all that has been discussed in these forums and the recent comments by well known developers, even the developers of MGS. Oh well, here's to living the dream!.
Ironically, I'm not a fan. I own almost every single console since the NES. The developers of MGS have made claims with regards to the power of the machine they were working on at the time on several occasions, including this one. And this always held up until they released their next game which, not surprisingly, was better-looking and utilized the hardware better.
Nice to hear good news for the 360 in Japan, bet it all goes back to normal next month, you never know though, maybe things are starting to look a little better there for Xbox.
Maybe the 360 is getting better, or maybe the PS3 is getting worse? Or both? Hmm...is 50k systems sold in a month in Japan considered good? I know it's more than 30k, but is better than terrible good?
I like the think that the same 4 people have been obsessively buying the 360 in Japan.
Those 4 people in that photo have been buying their 360' for the last 3 years now.
We definitely need more pics of attractive people buying Xbox 360s. I'd be obliged if anyone wants to send a few through to us.
I've got one, but it has a fair amount of nudity in it.
What - the Xbox, or the picture?
An xbox with nudity in it? What could be better?
