Xbox Live Going Mobile

Microsoft hiring staff to bring ìXbox Live enabled games to Windows Mobileî.

Microsoft is planning to expand Xbox Live to Windows-enabled mobile devices, according to a recent series of job postings.

The platform holder has already hired a principal program manager to bring “Xbox Live enabled games to Windows Mobile”, and is also seeking a software test engineer and senior software test engineer.

The job listings, originally spotted by the Telegraph, reference avatar integration, social interactions and multi-screen experiences.

Microsoft’s Live Anywhere gaming initiative currently enables users to share account details such as profiles and friends lists across Xbox 360 and PC. Microsoft Points can also be used across the two platforms. But the company has previously spoken about its desire to expand its online gaming service beyond the living room.

“We understand that customers don't want an island experience, they want to be connected to the rest of their lives,” Shane Kim, former corporate VP of strategy and business development at Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, said in July 2009. “So the question will be, how do we enter into that market - do we do our own device, do we create our own phone - that's a question for the company itself - do we continue to go down the Windows Mobile path which is that path that we're on today?”
