Microsoft’s Xbox Originals service, which launched in December 2007, has now officially become Games On Demand.
Microsoft said at E3 earlier this month that one more title – widely tipped to be Halo 2 - would be released for the Xbox Originals service ahead the August rollout of Xbox 360 games for download.
The new service, which was announced at E3, will initially offer about 30 older Xbox 360 titles, including Mass Effect, BioShock, Assassin's Creed, Crackdown, Oblivion and Call of Duty 2. Prices will be in line with retail boxed copies and new games will be added regularly.
The download service will also support credit card transactions, meaning Microsoft points won’t be required to purchase titles.
Don't Dreamhang me for this, but the Wii's got old crap nailed down. I wish Microsoft would step up with some old DOS/Win games on the cheap through Live. For a few dollars, I think gamers would love some legacy FPS games that started it all.
I'd agree with this, but I also like some of the newish stuff as well. Sort of odd though, offering Bioshock on this service when a bundle is going out that will offer both Bioshock and Oblivion.
Cool to see the new service, but defo agree that the prices should be at least five bucks cheaper.
"Prices will be in line with retail boxed copies"
Well, that's an automatic fail right there. There's no extra production costs i.e. DVD's, manuals, distribution, pricing for retail shelf space, etc. So why the same price?
Also, the 360 is limited to expensive 20/60/120gb proprietary hard-drives, not exactly ideal for downloadable content spanning 4 to 8 gb in size.
That's always been the weird thing with Xbox Originals, why would you want to pay 1200m$ points for something you could pick up in your local Gamestation for under a fiver and save all that disk space?
The same logic applies to the 360 titles, i can't see any of the above costing much more than £10 pre-owned.
